These paragraphs meet or exceed the named AWWA standard. Adjust size, ends, and operator. NSF 61 and NSF 372 apply on potable water iron. Ask sales if the book needs a stamped letter with the quote.
Gate valves, AWWA C515 / C509
Gate valves 2-1/2 inch through 16 inch shall be resilient seated, ductile iron, meeting or exceeding AWWA C515. Bodies 18 inch through 36 inch shall be Model LD or equal, with an F16 mounting plate. All valves shall be certified to NSF 61 and NSF 372. Stems shall be stainless steel. Bonnet bolts shall be 316 stainless and isolated from soil and water. Each valve shall carry a unique serial number. Interior and exterior coating shall meet AWWA C550. End connections shall be mechanical joint, flanged, MJ x FL, or grooved as shown on the drawings.
Acceptable: Metal Core Model RD (2-1/2"–12"), Model FD (2-1/2"–16"), Model LD (18"–36"). Figure prefix MCV-RD, MCV-FD, or MCV-LD. Where the specification still names gray iron C509, Series 25 (MCV-25) may be used. UL/FM fire gates shall be Series 45 (MCV-45), NRS, OS&Y, or PIV.
Where the main is HDPE, the gate valve shall be a ductile iron AWWA C515 resilient seated valve with factory HDPE fusible ends for butt fusion or electrofusion. Ends shall not be field-adapted couplings. Size 2 inch through 12 inch.
Acceptable: Metal Core Model HD / Series 66. Figure prefix MCV-HD.
Butterfly valves 6 inch through 48 inch for transmission and plant service shall be double eccentric, AWWA C504, ductile iron, with gearbox actuation, certified to NSF 61 and NSF 372. Butterfly valves 3 inch through 24 inch specified as concentric and 250B shall be fully rubber lined.
Acceptable: Metal Core Model B77 double eccentric (MCV-B77) or Model B88 concentric (MCV-B88). Indoor fire grooved butterflies shall be Series 815, UL/FM, 300 PSI (MCV-815).
Swing check valves shall meet AWWA C508 and ANSI/ASME B16.10 lay length, ductile iron, 250 PSI, epoxy coated to AWWA C550, 2 inch through 24 inch. The bonnet shall lift the disc and mechanism as one assembly.
Ball check valves for wastewater or solids-bearing flow shall have a single moving part. The ball shall be self-cleaning. Body shall be ductile iron 2 inch and larger.
Acceptable: Metal Core Model 41 swing check (MCV-41) or Model 64 ball check (MCV-64).
Dry barrel fire hydrants shall meet or exceed AWWA C502 and shall be UL listed and FM approved. The main valve shall be a one-piece ductile iron core encapsulated in EPDM. Main valve opening shall be 4-1/2 inch or 5-1/4 inch as shown. Shoe shall be mechanical joint or flanged. Traffic features and repair parts shall be interchangeable with the manufacturer’s current Series 27 line.
Acceptable: Metal Core Series 27 modern (MCV-27) or Series 2780 nostalgic (MCV-2780). Flushing and post hydrants shall be Series 67 (MCV-67).
Wet barrel fire hydrants for warm-climate systems shall meet or exceed AWWA C503 and shall be UL listed and FM approved. Valve discs shall be bronze-cored and encapsulated in XNBR. Configuration shall be 2-way or 3-way as shown. Coastal or corrosive sites shall specify cast 304 stainless.
Acceptable: Metal Core Series 24 ductile iron (MCV-24) or Series 24 stainless (MCV-2442).
Indoor fire protection gate valves 2-1/2 inch through 8 inch shall be UL listed and FM approved, 250 PSI, NRS or OS&Y, flanged or grooved. Grooved-end butterflies for indoor fire shall be UL/FM, 300 PSI, with integral gearbox and supervisory switches. Grooved-end checks shall be UL/FM with stainless internals. Post and wall indicators shall be UL/FM and shall pair with PIV gates.
Acceptable: Metal Core Series 145 (MCV-145), Series 815 (MCV-815), Series 45 (MCV-45), Series 5190 (MCV-5190), Series 34 indicators (MCV-34), bronze trim Series 970 (MCV-970).
Eccentric plug valves for wastewater isolation shall be ductile iron, quarter-turn, meeting AWWA C517, 2-1/2 inch through 12 inch, mechanical joint or flanged.
Acceptable: Metal Core Series 764. Figure prefix MCV-764.
Quarter-turn valves fused into HDPE water or gas pipe shall be factory HDPE fusible ball valves, 3/4 inch through 6 inch, suitable for the pipe DR shown on the drawings.
Acceptable: Metal Core Series 85. Figure prefix MCV-85.
